NYPD: Bronx murder rate down more than 23 percent over last year
In the Bronx, there has been a decrease of nearly 25 percent in the number of murders from 2011 to 2012. (December 26, 2012)
THE BRONX - The NYPD is reporting an overall citywide decline in the murder rate from one year ago.
The report shows a 23 percent decline in murders for The Bronx over last year. The 44th Precinct reported the sharpest drop, with a nearly 60 percent decline in murders, going from 19 murders last year to eight this year.
The NYPD credits the decline in murders to the stop-and-frisk policy, while community activists credit gang crackdowns.
