THE BRONX - A group of elected officials including Bronx Congressman Charles Rangel is calling for a crackdown on illegal subletting through the vacation rental website Airbnb.

Recent reports claim that two-thirds of Airbnb listings in New York City are illegal sublets. There's also growing concern that the practice is driving rents up in neighborhoods in Upper Manhattan.

In a statement, Rangle said, “Being that Airbnb is not from here...they might not mind it so much if generations of African-American and Latino families...are forced to relocate because the rent is too high."
