Dermatologists advise residents on proper sun protection
With summer in full effect, dermatologists are advising people about the right types of sunscreen and other skin care tips.
The 2016 Sunscreen Guide, created by the Environmental Working Group, states that there are over 750 different types of sunscreen in the market. Of those, the guide states that almost three-fourths of the products are using ingredients that can be harmful to the skin.
Dermatologists say, according to studies, that products containing Oxybenzone or Retinyl Palmitate can cause irritation when exposed to sunlight.
In addition, dermatologists urge caution when using spray sunscreen as it can be difficult to determine if you have complete, even coverage.
Other options for sun protection include wearing the proper clothing, shade and overall sun avoidance during times of peak sunlight.
