NYC to require free tampons in school bathrooms

Mayor Bill de Blasio Wednesday signed three new laws requiring schools, shelters and city jails to offer free tampons and pads in women's bathrooms.
De Blasio says he hopes to inspire other municipalities to follow suit now that New York has become the first city with such a law.
Mayelin Sanchez, a 15-year-old high school student, praised the move.
"Many times I have felt uncomfortable and embarrassed," she says. "And I shouldn't be, because this is a natural process in the lives of young ladies."
City lawmakers say that when the City Council passed the bills, they also included a resolution calling on Albany to make feminine products tax-exempt. The mayor renewed that call Wednesday.
