Proposed bill would let lawmakers decide muni-meter locations

One City Council member is proposing a bill that gives lawmakers control over where the Department of Transportation installs parking meters.
Councilman Rafael Salamanca Jr. had the muni-meters removed from his residential area and is trying to make sure they are gone for good.
"It took me about three weeks to a month to get them removed," he says.
The councilman is proposing a law to the City Council that would require the DOT to make a formal request for muni-meter installations to the local community boards and the local council member.
The bill would give the councilmember of the proposed area the power to make the final decision.
Some residents are applauding the proposal and say they will feel more comfortable with local officials making those judgment calls.
