NYPD releases picture of man wanted in Weeks Ave. murders
Police have released a picture of the man suspected of shooting two Bronx residents Monday morning.
The slayings occurred around 5 a.m. on Weeks Avenue near 175th Street in Mount Hope. The suspected gunman, Luis Chacon, 37, has 22 prior arrests.
One of the victims' families says 37-year-old Yajahira Duverge and 33-year-old Beramy Garcia were hanging out after the Dominican parade when they were gunned down. Duverge's family says she was a mother of four children, and her husband witnessed the aftermath of the attack.
Kendry Perez says he left the parade celebration for a few minutes and returned to see his wife of 13 years on the ground and surrounded by police officers.
"She was the first and only woman in my life," Perez says. "I'm so confused about all of it. I left, and everything was fine. Twenty minutes later, I came back, and everything was different."
Perez also says neither he nor his wife knew the suspected gunman.
Police are urging anyone with information about the suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
