A state assemblyman demanded an apology from the NYPD Monday after an officer allegedly used excessive force against him over the weekend.
Elected officials and community activists joined Bronx Assemblyman Michael Blake outside of Police Headquarters in Manhattan to condemn the NYPD's use of force and officer training.
Blake says a Bronx neighborhood officer grabbed and threw him during a family barbecue at the Gouverneur Morris Houses Saturday.
Blake, who filed a complaint with the Civilian Complaint Review Board, demanded an apology from NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton and action against the officer involved.
But officials say they will do neither of those things, and Bratton says Blake may have put his hands on an officer first -- which the assemblyman denies.
"I reject the assertions of people saying that I was aggressive," Blake says. "Don't slander my name."
Mayor Bill de Blasio did offer an apology to the lawmaker.
