Police: Man dies after wrong-way crash in stolen car on Willis Avenue Bridge
Police say a man died after he allegedly caused a wrong-way crash on the Willis Avenue Bridge Monday in a stolen vehicle.
Police say the 30-year-old man was driving the wrong way around 10:45 a.m. when he crashed into another car, then struck a concrete barrier.
The allegedly stolen car he was riding in came to a stop, and the man then exited the car and apparently tried to jump off the bridge. Viewer photos sent into News 12 show what appears to be the man possibly contemplating jumping from the bridge.
News 12 is told that officers stopped the man from jumping and took him into custody, but he was later pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital. The cause of death is not yet known.
Two passengers in the second car that the man crashed into were taken to Lincoln Hospital and are expected to be OK. One of them was a 7-year-old child and one was a female passenger, News 12 is told.
The male driver of the second car was also arrested for driving with a suspended license, police say.
It's unclear where exactly the car was stolen from, but officials say it was within the 44th Precinct.
The incident caused traffic in the area to come to a standstill earlier, but the road later reopened.
