Road to Rio: Yvonne Harrison
As the world prepares for the Summer Olympics in Rio, News 12 spoke with a former Bronx track star about her own journey to the Olympics.
Yvonne Harrison, who ran track and field at Lehman High School, took part in the 2004 Summer Games.
Harrison began running at 6 years old. During her 20-year career, she competed in 32 countries altogether.
But after retiring from competing, she says she needed a new way to fill her time.
"Training for 20 years, seven days a week...it's like, what do you do now?" Harrison says. "You're always trying to find something to fill that void."
Eventually, she began coaching at St. John's.
For more on Harrison's story and life after the Olympics, watch News 12 Overtime: Road to Rio, which airs Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m.
