Tractor-trailer carrying beer overturns on BQE, causing delays
A tractor-trailer carrying beer overturned on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway causing major delays Monday morning.
All northbound lanes of the BQE and one southbound lane were shut at Hamilton Avenue after the crash on a ramp of the Gowanus Expressway.
Traffic was backed up all the way to the Verrazano Bridge, with both lanes of traffic just past Exit 26 shut down for hours as crews worked to remove the truck.
The Budweiser truck overturned around 4 a.m., according to reports.
Fire officials say the 44-year-old truck driver was transported to Methodist Hospital, but not seriously hurt.
Officials say along with beer, the truck also spilled several gallons of diesel fuel which made it difficult for crews to clean up.
Delays are expected throughout the day while crews continue to clean up the roads.
One lane of traffic has since opened back up.
