Gov. Cuomo launches NYS Grown and Certified Food Program
Gov. Andrew Cuomo launched the New York state Grown and Certified label program Thursday, which aims to make healthy food shopping easier and more understandable.
Gov. Cuomo says the lines are blurred when it comes to natural and healthy food qualifications.
"There is no definition for natural, there is no legal definition for antibiotic-free, range-free; these are just marketing terms," says Gov. Cuomo.
Farmers who volunteer to participate in the program will need to pass an inspection proving that they meet high food standards to protect people from germs and also environmental standards that protect the state's land and resources.
The food items will be sold with certified label stickers on them throughout the city.
The program will also bring a food hub to the Hunt's Point area and create over 200 jobs, according to officials.
