Silvercup Studios officially opens in Port Morris
Silvercup Studios had its long-awaited opening Wednesday in the Bronx.
The $35 million studio opened its third New York City location on Locust Avenue in the Port Morris section of the Bronx.
Hundreds of jobs are expected to be brought to the area with the opening of the studio, according to elected officials.
Silvercup Studios produces many shows and movies in New York, including a new show on ABC called "Time after Time" that will be filmed in the Bronx.
New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie welcomed the studio during a ceremony Wednesday and made clear his message that "The Bronx is Back," hoping the studio's move will inspire other businesses to move to the Bronx.
Silvercup Studios President Stuart Suna says the TV and film industry injects millions of dollars into the local economy and that his studio has experienced this kind of effect firsthand.
Another production company, York Studios, plans on opening in the Soundview section of the Bronx in 2017.
