Police rescue 130 roosters from Fordham cockfighting ring
Police on Friday raided a cockfighting ring that was operating out of a repair garage in Fordham.
Police and ASPCA investigators say they found over 130 roosters used for cockfighting inside J and J Boiler Repair Garage on East 184th Street.
When investigators arrived at the garage at about 1:30 a.m. they saw a 39-year-old man going into the garage with a box of live roosters.
When they looked inside, they saw the other roosters, cockfighting rings and animal fighting paraphernalia.
Police say they questioned the man while the ASPCA evaluated the roosters.
They say they received multiple complaints to 311 about animal cruelty.
Officials say besides the one man who was questioned, no one else was in the garage during the raid.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
