Local lawmaker looks to clean up Southern Boulevard
A local lawmaker is hoping to clean up parts of the South Bronx as well as find jobs for people in need of work.
Councilmember Rafael Salamanca Jr. says he has added funds to the neighborhood cleanup budget to clear away trash on Southern Boulevard.
He says the move, starting Sept. 19, will help keep the community clean while providing transitional employment to the homeless, previously incarcerated and mentally ill.
"They will clean our streets in areas where sanitation will have a difficult time cleaning because of manpower," says Salamanca.
Wildcat Services employees will be cleaning the area up to four times a week.
Officials say the funding will help ensure cleanup for some areas, including Longwood, Mott Haven and Hunts Point.
