Bronx comics applaud ‘SNL’ for adding Latina comedian

A Latina comedian is among three new cast members who will appear on 'Saturday Night Live' in the show's upcoming 42nd season.
Melissa Villasenor will be on board for the show's Oct. 1 premiere, NBC said Monday.
Two years ago, Bronx residents Jenni Ruiza and Jesenia created a sketch calling out SNL for not accurately representing Latinas.
Although they like to think their sketch had something to do with it, they say they couldn't think of a better woman than Villasenor for the job.
Villasenor reached a major fan base when she appeared in season six of "America's Got Talent " as an impressionist.
Ruiza and Jesenia will be featured this weekend at the official Latino short film festival in Spanish Harlem and continue to represent Latinas in comedy with their sketches and podcasts online.
NBC also added Mikey Day and Alex Moffat to the cast ahead of the new season.
