1 seriously injured in 3-vehicle crash that shut down Major Deegan
The Major Deegan is gradually reopening after a collision between a truck and two other vehicles completely shut down the highway early Saturday morning.
Police say the crash happened around 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Major Deegan near Fordham Road.
The highway closed and was at a total standstill from 230th Street to Fordham Road overnight and through the morning hours, backing up traffic for miles.
Police say a white Honda was speeding to the center lane and tried to cut off a truck but hit the truck and a blue Passat, which over turned.
Authorities tell News 12 The Bronx the lanes of the Major Deegan are expected to open gradually through the morning hours as they continue to clean up debris and investigate the incident.
The drivers all stayed on scene. Officials say one of the three occupants of the Honda that allegedly cause the crash is in the hospital and is in critical condition.
