Memorial set up outside shooting victim’s Bronx home
Mourners set up a memorial over the weekend outside the home of a 19-year-old man who was gunned down near Rockwood Street and Walton Avenue.
Police say Joseph Jimenez, a former student-athlete at Bathgate High School, was likely mistaken for someone else when he was shot in the head a block away from his home. He was taken to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital and pronounced dead.
Coaches say Jimenez was a talented basketball player -- one of the best to have played for the school.
Jimenez was the third person connected to Bathgate High School to be shot and killed in the past six years. He was most recently attending Hostos Community College in his sophomore year. Friends say his favorite player was LeBron James.
Family, friends, coaches, teammates and teachers have attended the memorial.
