Food pantry opens at Bronx Community College

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Bronx Community College Tuesday after the college unveiled its new food pantry.
According to the school, more than 50 percent of its student body comes from struggling families.
The college is encouraging students who go to the school to pick up food from the pantry. Students and faculty members who qualify for the pantry will be able to pick from its shelves twice a month.
Administrators and students will be donating canned goods to keep the pantry shelves stocked. The pantry was opened through a $10,000 donation by the Bronx Community College Foundation.
College officials say free turkeys will also be available over the next week for students who qualify.
