Badly burned woman’s body found inside Bronx apartment

The badly burned body of a woman was found inside her Bronx apartment, police say.

Her body was discovered Sunday inside an apartment on Webster Avenue in Morrisania around 3:47 p.m.

Police say the 53-year-old woman suffered burns to nearly 70 percent of her body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the woman told her fiancé's son she was going to make food in the kitchen.

However, after her fiancé's son smelled smoke, he found the woman badly burned and sitting on the toilet in the bathroom.

Her identity has not been released, and a medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
