Hunts Point produce market ramps up operation ahead of Thanksgiving
With over 30 fruits and vegetable vendors, demand for produce at the Hunts Point Market in the Bronx reached an all-time high just ahead of Thanksgiving.
The facility delivers food all across New York City, providing produce that comes from as far as Taiwan and Vietnam.
Gabriela D'Arrigo, the director of D'Arrigo Brothers Company of Hunts Point, says her family's wholesale produce supplier is one of the largest in the New York Metro area.
In fact, D'Arrigo says if you're eating produce at the Thanksgiving table in New York City this year, chances are it came from the Hunts Point Market in the Bronx.
At least 30 vendors operate out of the Bronx hub and each distribute an estimated 1 million pounds of produce to grocery stores in the area each year around Thanksgiving.
With over 30 million pounds of produce, D'Arrigo says her main goal is to make sure she has the products everyone is looking for. In order to do that, she says the market brings on additional workers this time of year to help fill that goal.
