Community Board 4 endorses proposed Grand Concourse changes
A proposal to make the Grand Concourse safer has been endorsed by Community Board 4.
The Transportation Alternative's campaign "Complete The Concourse" is calling on the city to make some major changes to the entire 8-mile stretch.
They want pedestrian islands, designated bus and bike lanes and improvements to crosswalks and sidewalks along the entire roadway.
In 2014, the Grand Concourse was listed as one of the top 10 deadliest roads in the city.
The campaign says that in the last four years, 13 people have died on the Grand Concourse.
Currently, cyclists have a shared bike lane for about five blocks out of the 8-mile stretch of roadway.
While the Transportation Alternative has Community Board Four's support, it's still pushing for the Department of Transportation to conduct a study to get the changes implemented.
News 12 reached out to the DOT for a statement and is awaiting a response.
