Both Puerto Rican and Garifuna people came together Saturday to celebrate their holiday season traditions during the fourth annual "Parranda con Paranda."
For Garifuna people, paranda is a style of music to express their feelings, according to the Bronx Music Heritage Center.
Organizers say paranda made its way into Garifuna music in the 19th century after Garifuna people arrived in Honduras and incorporated elements of Latin and Spanish rhythms into their music.
Puerto Rican musicians also incorporated vejigantes into their Saturday evening performance, which are masks that they wear during Puerto Rican celebrations.
