Residents brave 3-hour wait for freshly baked holiday essentials
Bakeries, delis, and supermarkets saw a last-minute rush of customers, as shoppers and businesses geared up for the holidays.
Shoppers lined the streets of Arthur Avenue Friday looking to buy fresh bread, fish, meat, and of course mozzarella, for their holiday celebrations.
Some shops on the avenue even hired extra help to deal with the holiday shopping crunch.
Customers lined up outside various markets, some waiting as long as three hours, to purchase last-minute essentials.
A line of patrons wrapped around the avenue outside Madonia's Brother Bakery Friday morning into the afternoon.
Owner Charles Lalima says olive breads and other baked specialty breads are very popular.
He recommends buying cookies and other baked goods that will keep longer on Friday and to buy freshly baked bread on Saturday.
Customers say it's all worth it and enjoy meeting new people and learning recipes while they wait.
