Man finds new use for old Mott Haven townhouse
One Mott Haven man wants to charge visitors a fee to enter his quaint, 19th-century home on East 140th Street -- money he plans to use to raise awareness of the neighborhood's history.
Samuel Brooks says he wants to show off the work of local designers, like SoBro Studio Surfaces, in the landmarked townhouse, which was built in 1889.
"It's a good opportunity to bring attention to an area that's been so historic and needs some renovations," he says.
He's also inviting local artists to display and auction their work there.
He says he charges tourists a $20 visiting fee, which he donates to the Mott Haven Historic District Association.
