The Bronx experiences violent start to 2017

The Bronx experienced a violent start to 2017 as four out of the seven shootings that happened citywide on Sunday occurred in The Bronx.

The first shooting occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Melrose Avenue in Parkchester. A 23-year-old male was shot multiple times as he was coming home from a party.

The second shooting happened just after 5 a.m. when a 34-year-old man was shot twice in the torso in Foxhurst on Jennings Street.

The third shooting happened around 6 a.m. when a 26-year-old man was shot twice on Baychester Avenue in Wakefield.

All three of the victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

The most recent shooting occurred Sunday evening on Valentine Avenue and East 181st Street. Police say one man was shot in the neck and chest. There is no word yet on his condition.

All of this violence comes days after NYPD Commissioner James O'Neil praised data showing shootings and homicides were down in 2016.
