Stabbing marks 1st homicide of 2017 in the Bronx

Police say a man was stabbed to death early Monday inside a Claremont apartment, marking the borough's first homicide of 2017.

The incident happened just after 5 a.m. inside a fifth-floor apartment at 1291 Hoe Ave.

Police say the 42-year-old man was found with stab wounds to the chest and head, with blood covering the apartment walls. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Neighbors reported hearing some sort of verbal dispute just before the man's death. Police have not released a motive, but do say the killing could have been drug-related.

Police also say Monday was the victim's birthday. His identity was not yet released. News 12 is told that he was a father of two.

Police say the victim had many prior arrests, most recently for criminal possession of a controlled substance.
