2 men killed in separate police-involved shootings in Brooklyn
Two suspects were killed in two separate police-involved shootings several hours apart in Brooklyn, police say.
The most recent shooting happened around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday on Atlantic and Grand avenues outside the B-Hive Lounge in Crown Heights.
According to police, two officers shot 18-year-old Joshua Martino, who they say was firing a gun into the club and then pointed the gun at officers. Martino later died after going into cardiac arrest at Brooklyn Hospital. Police recovered a .38-caliber revolver at the scene.
The first incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night at 967 East 99th St. in Canarsie when police responded to a report of an emotionally disturbed man. They say James Owens, 63, was carrying a large kitchen knife and refused to put it down after officers ordered him to do so.
Police say Owens advanced toward them, and one of the officers used a stun gun on him. The stun gun had no effect on Owens, however, and police say a second officer shot him.
He was transported to Brookdale Hospital and pronounced dead.
No officers were injured in the incident.
