152 affordable apartments coming to Bedford Park

The developer behind new affordable housing in Bedford Park is converting an abandoned repair station into a 13-story apartment building.

Mark Stagg, president of the Stagg Group, says the new Van Cortlandt Avenue East building will house 152 units ranging in size from studios to three-bedroom apartments. Their base cost ranges between $900 and $1,800 a month.

The building will also have its own laundromat and fitness center, Stagg says.

But the new building doesn't come with new parking, and neighbors say the extra traffic worries them.

Construction is expected to begin in July and wrap up at the end of 2018.
