Rash of car break-ins plagues Highbridge neighborhood
Car break-ins are common crimes in Highbridge, where shattered glass frequently litters parts of Undercliff Avenue and Boscobel Place, some residents there say.
Dozens of cars have reportedly been broken into -- several this week alone -- in what residents say is a near-daily occurrence over the past few years.
One man says he fell victim 10 times, but he did not wish to give his name. He says cars parked under the overpass on the street are easy targets, and the thieves usually take radios and side mirrors.
Frances Dames, the most recent victim, says someone smashed her window to take nickels and dimes and everything else that wasn't bolted down.
Residents say the secluded block has only one security camera, which is out-of-order.
Police say they are increasing patrols in the neighborhood while they investigate.
