Borough bustles, despite ice, cold and snow

Bronx residents of all stripes braved freezing temperatures Monday to keep to their routines.

Construction workers moved quickly on a project at Bruckner Boulevard and White Plains Road, wearing several layers to combat the cold.

Their advice on how to stay warm when working outdoors is simple. Keep moving, one worker explains. "Once you stop moving, the sweat hits hard and you will freeze."

Pedestrians had to deal with slippery sidewalks as ice layered many areas, even as residents and businesses are required by law to clear their sidewalks. At East Fordham Road and Lorillard Plaza, drivers were going slow over ice and slush on the mostly cleared streets.

Temperatures in the low-20s will remain overnight, News 12 meteorologists say.

Warmer weather is expected to reach the area Tuesday, with temperatures in the 40s and a chance of rain.
