W. 234th Street explosion suspect asks for bail

One of two men accused of operating an illegal marijuana grow house linked to a deadly explosion on West 234th Street asked a judge to grant bail Monday.

Julio Salcedo and his lawyer filed the bail application, while the other suspect, Girvaldi Castilla, waived his right to appear Monday. Both are due back in court on March 21.

The men allegedly tampered with gas lines inside the home that exploded. The blast killed FDNY Deputy Chief Michael Fahy.

Salcedo's lawyer says he is innocent, a father and not a flight risk. The judge is expected to reach a decision on the bail request within the next few weeks.
