Exits reopen near Cross Bronx wall collapse
A retaining wall along the Cross Bronx Expressway crumbled into pieces Thursday, leaving a heap of bricks sprawled across the major roadway for hours.
Fire officials say the bricks formed a facade on the retaining wall. They fell on the westbound side near the Major Deegan Expressway.
The fallen bricks blocked two lanes of traffic, leading to delays throughout the day. Exits 1D and 1C were closed for about five hours -- including during the evening rush -- as cleanup work was underway.
Fire officials say no one was injured during the incident.
