Volunteers building 1st Hunts Point soup kitchen
A group of volunteers is building a former church hall in Hunts Point into a soup kitchen.
The New York Food Bank says the renovation at Bright Temple Church will bring a neighborhood its first soup kitchen.
The work includes installing a new kitchen, hardwood floors and new paint in the 1,200-square-foot space.
Officials say the soup kitchen will be able to serve 1,000 families a week.
The volunteers say they hope to have the job finished by Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
