3-month-old Bronx baby dies at hospital
The 3-month-old West Farms girl rushed from her home to the hospital last week died Monday, according to her family's attorney.
Sherlin Camacho died at 7 a.m. at Montefiore Children's Hospital after officials informed the family's lawyer that she was in critical condition, according to Jessica Cuadrado, the attorney.
Katherine Plasencia, the baby's mother, says the last week has been difficult for her because the Administration for Children's Services limited her ability to see Sherlin due to an investigation into the death.
Police arrived at a home on Honeywell Avenue last Tuesday to find Sherlin in cardiac arrest. She had several injuries, including a spinal fracture.
As News 12 has reported, both police and the ACS questioned Plasencia and her husband following the incident. Neither was charged or named a suspect at the time.
But now, Cuadrado, the lawyer, says that because of the severity of the baby's injuries, police are investigating the death as a criminal matter.
The focus is on both parents, a babysitter and a renter at the home.
The lawyer says that the baby's 5-year-old brother was taken from Plasencia's custody for the time being. She has a hearing to seek his return later this month.
