Best of the Bronx: Eva's Kids provides affordable day care

A Bronx woman who's known as a champion for change in the Hunts Point community is also changing the lives of many children who walk through her door daily.

Eva Sanjurjo has been watching over kids from the Bronx for almost 40 years, setting them up to take steps toward success from an early age.

"Miss Eva" opened up her own day care, Eva's Kids, in the basement of her Hunts Point home when she was raising her three daughters. Decades later, the playroom is upstairs because the kids just keep on coming in, but her mission remains the same.

Sanjurjo's goal is to give parents access to quality child care by only charging $65 a week. She intends to mold the young minds into thoughtful, careful and respectful students focused on their education.
