79-year-old man brutally attacked inside Bronx apartment lobby

A 79-year-old man was brutally beaten and robbed inside the lobby of a Bronx apartment building, police say.

The incident happened Thursday inside the lobby of a residential building in the area of Dekalb Avenue and East 213th Street around 7:15 p.m.

Police say a man placed the 79-year-old in a headlock before throwing him to the ground and repeatedly punching him in the face and then stealing his wallet.

The man was transported to Jacobi Medical Center with serious injuries to his face and required surgery, according to his daughter. He is now recovering at home.

The victim's daughter, who News 12 has chosen not to identify, is now asking for justice. She says her father is a nice person and she has no idea why the suspect committed the crime.

The suspect got away with $220 and the man's cellphone.

Out of fear, the daughter of the man says their family may leave the Bronx and move back to their native country of the Dominican Republic.

Neighbors say they feel bad for the victim and hope the suspect is caught.

Police are describing the suspect as around 6-foot-3 with a mustache.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
