Witness: Suspect attempted to abduct baby from stroller

Witnesses say someone tried to snatch a baby from its stroller in Claremont on Friday.

The incident allegedly occurred as the mother was pushing the stroller on East 167th Street and Morris Avenue when someone came up and tried to take the baby.

Officials say the mother was able to fight back, hold onto the stroller and make her way to a fruit stand across the street.

The fruit stand worker tells News 12 that the mother ran to him for help as another man called 911. Police showed up soon after.

The baby's mother was shaken up and asked for bus money, saying she was too afraid to continue walking.

It is unclear whether or not the suspect is still on the loose, but witnesses say the mother and baby are both doing fine.

Police say no arrests have been made at this time.
