Residents demand better security, lighting after man beaten in lobby
Norwood residents are advocating for more security and better lighting in their buildings after a 79-year-old man was beaten and robbed inside the lobby of his apartment building on Bainbridge Avenue last week.
The incident was caught on surveillance camera.
Police say the suspect made off with more than $200, along with the man's cellphone.
The victim's family tells News 12 that they may move back to the Dominican Republic because they are scared.
"We cannot accept anybody assaulting the most vulnerable in our community, that being our seniors," says community activist Tony Herbert.
Herbert says a group called Global Security is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the crime.
Police describe the suspect as 6-foot-3 with a mustache.
