'Book Trust' literacy program comes to the Bronx

The city's Department of Education is bringing a nationwide literacy program to schools in the Bronx.

The program is called 'Book Trust,' which allows students from low-income families to choose their own books throughout the entire school year to take home with them.

The organization focuses on the book choice aspect, citing studies that show children are more likely to read books that they choose themselves.

At Bronxwood Elementary, students will be picking out their own book each month throughout the school year.

Book Trust will reach about 4,700 children from across the city this year.
