Budget proposal: $1B to fix NYCHA leaks

The mayor's preliminary 2018 budget proposal, announced Tuesday, includes money for major NYCHA repairs and an upgrade to an NYPD shooting range and training center.

The proposal would invest $1 billion to repair leaky roofs in 700 NYCHA buildings, which officials say will lead to future savings by preventing mold growth and other problems.

It would also grant $275 million to the NYPD Firing and Tactical Weapons Training Center at Rodman's Neck.

Many of the structures there have not been upgraded since the 1960s.
