Pete’s Cafe reopens nearly 2 years after fire
The popular Pete's Cafe in Belmont reopened last week with new decor and the same old menu after a fire forced its closure in 2015.
"We worked hard to reopen because we love this neighborhood," says Max Romero, who owns the Fordham Road eatery. "It took time because of the city -- new rules, new permits."
A second-floor fire in March 2015 forced the cafe, popular among neighbors and college students alike, to close down.
And although it remained closed for almost two years, Romero says business is picking up fast - just in time for outgoing college seniors to introduce the place to underclassmen.
"Business is back already," he says. "It's just like nothing happened."
