Belmont bunny predicts 6 more weeks of winter
The rabbits of Belmont Community Day Care sought to continue their three-year streak of showing up groundhogs when it comes to predicting the duration of winter.
"We decided to cheat off of Groundhog Day and have Hare Hog Day, because we aren't allowed to have groundhogs," says Richard Doren, the day care's executive director.
The Belmont bunny Carmel set out to see its shadow -- or not -- much like the famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil.
Unfortunately for the children, who booed this year's results, the rabbit predicted a long winter when it spotted its shadow.
Organizers say their so-called hare hogs were correct in their predictions for the previous three years.
