Hundreds sign petition for better Bx29 bus service

Riders who rely on the Bx29 bus are voicing their demands in a petition to get better service on the bus route.

Close to 530 people have already signed a declaration by the City Island Civic Association to get changes to the bus route.

Straphangers are pushing for the Bx29, which runs from City Island to Pelham Bay and then Co-op City, to be spilt into two separate routes.

The Bx29 also stops running after midnight, which leaves some who rely on public transportation stranded. Petitioners want hours added to the bus route from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., especially on weekends for restaurant workers and their customers.

The City Island Civic Association is expecting a response from the MTA on its service demands in about in two weeks.
