Police: 81-year-old woman dies in Parkchester fire

Officials say an elderly woman died Tuesday morning after a fire ripped through her apartment building in Parkchester.

They say 81-year-old Patricia Parrish was found unconscious on the seventh floor of her apartment building, located on 2051 Saint Raymond Ave.

Officials say Parrish suffered from smoke inhalation and was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Firefighters say they were able to contain the fire before it spread to other floors. They say it is unclear if Parrish lived alone in the apartment.

Officials say they are investigating the cause of the fire.
