Mayor closes city's public schools for snow day

Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced that the city's public schools will close Thursday due to the expected snowstorm.

He pinned the announcement at the top of his Twitter page.

Forecasts show the chance for up to 10 inches of snow, and the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the Bronx from midnight until 6 p.m.

News 12 meteorologists say the heaviest snowfall will come down between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., with about 3 inches in time for the morning commute. Six inches could accumulate by noon.

Forecasters say the storm's other impacts include reduced visibility and bitter cold, with wind chills in the single digits.
