Strong winds down trees around the Bronx

Strong winds blew down trees and power lines around the borough Monday.

In Allerton, a 70-foot-tall tree fell over near the intersection of Bronx Park East and Waring Avenue, crushing a Parks Department van, damaging an SUV across the street and scratching several other cars.

Other large trees fell at Pelham Parkway South and Bolton Street and at 231st Street and Paulding Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Con Edison blamed strong winds for 22 reported power outages in the Bronx.
