Neighbors scared after man attacked with baseball bat

A 30-year-old man was beaten with a baseball bat and robbed in the Bronx, according to police, and now, neighbors say they are afraid.

The incident happened on Feb. 8, near East 194th Street and Hobart Avenue, in Pelham Bay around 2 a.m.

Neighbors say the neighborhood is fairly quiet, and they are surprised it happened.

Police say the two suspects randomly grabbed the man from behind as he was leaving a bodega and hit him in the head with a baseball bat before stealing his Samsung Galaxy cellphone and $170.

The man was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, according to police.

Surveillance video of one of the suspects has been released by the authorities.

Local advocate John Marano is calling for a larger police presence in the neighborhood.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
