Workers walk out at Hunts Point Terminal Market
Workers at the Hunts Point Terminal Market in the Bronx walked out of work Thursday and rallied for immigration rights outside the business.
The workers participated in a nationwide social media campaign called 'A Day Without Immigrants.'
The campaign urged undocumented workers, legal workers and immigrants from going into work or school Thursday.
Participants hope the movement brings awareness to the public of how crucial and important a role immigrants play in the U.S.
A video from inside of the market posted to social media showed the usually bustling and busy workplace to be barren and descaled.
The Hunts Point Terminal is the world's largest wholesale produce market which distributes goods to businesses across the tristate.
One man who works inside the market says some companies had to cancel their produce orders for the day because of how short-staffed they were.
Businesses across New York City and nationwide closed their doors to take part in the campaign, which condemns President Donald Trump's executive orders for a travel ban and a recent uptick in deportations of undocumented immigrants.
