Parents, teachers want J.H.S. 145 to stay open
Parents and teachers at J.H.S. 145 rallied Thursday to protest the possible closure of the school.
The junior high school is among three in the Bronx that Department of Education officials have proposed shutting down by the end of the academic year.
Officials say the three schools had several indicators in common, including low test scores and enrollment.
J.H.S. 145 is also one of 94 struggling schools given extra resources a few years ago.
Despite the extra help, the school could not get back on track. It is in one of the poorest congressional districts in the country.
The DOE says that if the closures are approved, it will help students secure seats in better schools.
