Tenants welcomed to new Melrose Avenue Apartments

A new affordable housing complex in Melrose opened Friday, providing homes to veterans and people who were once homeless.

Dozens of families received an official welcome home at the new 176-unit Morris Avenue Apartments.

The 15-story, environmentally friendly building includes solar panels, retail space, Energy Star appliances and 75 parking spots.

While all of the apartments are reserved for low-income families and people who were formerly homeless, 17 are specifically designated for homeless veterans.
